the Postale Society is, above all, about stories;
about finding, telling & celebrating stories.
we are immeasurably inspired by collecting genuine vintage postcards; their messages are an ever so tiny glimpse into the unknowable story of two people, suspended in time & place. finding these postcards, one cannot know what came before or after, or indeed if it even made its destination!
the stories we tell here at the Postale Society, through our subscription series, are creative writings based on our imaginings of what those stories, might in fact, have been. each of our series may be purchased as a discrete story in itself, but when read together, you will notice interwoven threads, tying them subtly together.
if you have any questions, please do be in touch with us through mail@postalesociety.com.

our brand new series: Volume 1, Chapter 5 is set against the backdrop of New York in the late 1940’s, it is a time of optimism & anticipation. in this series correspondence is shared between two young women, Clémence & Lilya: one Parisian, one from Stockholm, kindred spirits whom met at art school in Paris. Clémence (the grand-daughter of Matildé, from Volume 1, Chapter 3) has discovered a bundle of secret letters belonging to her grandmother in the family attic. tied up with velvet ribbon, there are postcards & photographs, letters & tickets, many from a mysterious American man named Humphrey…
Clémence travels to New York to take up an internship with a New York fashion house, retracing the voyage Matildé took herself when she was just 19 years old. whilst finding her own way in the city which never sleeps she learns more of her grandmother’s unknown past & shares her discoveries through letters & postcards to her friend. this is a story is a picture window into the life of a young woman, poised to take on the world; of beginnings, discovery, excitement & possibility. it is also the story of growing up, nuance, longing & patience.
